May 2012

May-  Weather: Rain then Hot, Gardens love it.
Runner beans in and many rows of beetroot, carrots, parsnips and swede. Hoping for a bumper year now we have room for a large freezer. Only problem is the grass it just grows and grows... so we cut and cut, like the green though.
Gerry and Dan at the biggest 'vine grainer' we have seen 400 stalls, lots on our list it took a total of 5 hours to go round but Dan managed to pick up a mini bar fringe for 12 euros working and silent, Gerry managed to pick up a Ariston fan oven for 50 euros, all now installed and working very well, thank you Simon. Surprising what you can find in a field here.
 Clear house main
But back to work, stone, stone...
Working our way through, so trying to clear and sort for the end of the month. Then we can bring round all the lintels, window sills and stone from the front to start building again in June. Piles are increasing in size as we find more stone but it is going down.

Poly tunnel doing well most plants now outside and we are starting to eat salad plants which all helps.
Outside all the main beds are now planted and we have cleared a space for the new compost heaps, which will be big.

Gerry has been clearing more land out the front so we can have good access to the apple and cherry trees this year. She has also on the rainy days been working on the second leaded light window slow progress as she is mainly working with a Stanley knife blade as it is very delicate.
Well just a bit of life to keep us on our toes, the local farmer cut through the main 3 phase overhead cables to our place. Unbelievable, as in the house things started to smoke and burn out as 415 volts had been sent down all the cables. So its OK we can claim. After a week we could go and pick up some of the equipment 20 pieces in all, but on the way back a 'white van man', went into the back of us as we where in a queue at a roundabout, Gerry off to hospital unable to move her neck. So we had a triple claim, house, car and medical insurance, never ever claimed before.
Gerry is ok but in the next pictures you may see her wearing a collar!

Cannot stop her weeding, grass has grown over where all the old beams were and the soil mound is growing as well on the right.

Starting to move the lintels and stone from the front we are there at last! Top of the soil mound below.

Cat happy!!!
That's it for this month, what a month, so just waiting for many phone calls to sort out the busted kit!
Next month more gardening, replacing and repairing and hopefully, continue the wall building.
