May - Weather:
Has been dry and hot every day, a few thunderstorms the first 2 days of
May, but the rest of the month HOT, except for the 26th typical, but a
great day. To start the month off we went away for a few days (3) to the
island of Belle-lle in the gulf of Morbihan off Vanne, a great time just
for a break, great to have Daniel here as he looked after the animals.
We went with some friends we have meet in
Guehenno, Didier and Isabel with their children Eliot and
Tabatha. Catching spider crabs, fish and scallops, we ate well that
night. |

Still back to building on return, next job is to bring up and put in
place two of the lintels.
We did this buy moving them with the tractor to the base of the
scaffolding then using the 2 ton chain lift 4 times each time rebuilding
the top of the scaffolding to the next position, so with 2 to bring up
repositioned 8 times. But it is up safe and sound. I am so glad Daniel
is here to help us, although his day is very physical. |

Using the tractors folk lift we move more stone around that Daniel has
washed and sorted. we also built a Barbecue out of some old bits, it
works well, the cats love it as it is warm in the evening and any bits
are cleared up immediately.

I have had made up at the local garage/blacksmith, 2 galvanized posts
just in case, extra support for the long lintel in the conservatory. In
the main house we have now removed all the acro-jacks, which makes the
place look even larger.

Gerry and Daniel are still working on the pile of the old house and
sorting more stone, while I have been working on the stone wall north
side, Daniel has been helping as when working from the roof ladder on
the left above the workshop we have to work with buckets and he passes
stone to me.
The roofers have arrived, within an hour the main trusses are off and
assembled, very exciting, but what do we do now....

Up it goes so we have to leave them to it....

Next, well do you remember we wanted to look for the chapel which we
thought was in our woods some ware after finding the stone!
Well we now have a week where will be in the way of the roofers, so load
up the tractor with chain saws, strops, lines (ropes) and all manner of
tools in its rear bucket and down we go.... We start by removing the
brambles so we can see, then we find 5 large downed trees, no problem to
pull out with the tractor and spend the next week cutting and bringing
them up to the log shed, this lot will last a winter and it is so dry.
Map below to give you some idea of the location. |

Each night we return the roofers are doing so well.
 |
|
 |
After we have cleared most of the vegetation and fallen trees, we have
started our time team dig, made a trench 1 x 3 meters first and we have
found the first wall. Now with trowels and brushes we will slowly
uncover the rest, on the right found the first corner....

Roofers are doing well first dormer goes in. Below are the hardwood ends
to the purlins which will over sail the gable ends.

Had Daniel to pose for me to give you some idea of the size of the main

26th. Great day even remember something of it at 60, just to thank you
all for coming family and friends, sorry still in work clothes. Special
thanks to Lesley, Daniel and Gerry. Far to many pictures to place on
this page but you will can see them on face book.... |

Just saying goodbye to our last guests and what do we see, the roof has
been fished and topped out, our thanks goes to the carpenters, what a
great month.
 |
Next month we have a lot to do, first repair the gable ends so that the
roof timbers sit in correctly and supported, this has to be done so the
weight of the slates is taken correctly. Stain all the out side timber
soffits, as with the tiles on this would have to be done on the finished
roof, much safer to do this before. |
