March 2013

March - Weather: Very cold still, but in the afternoons the sun seems to warm things up a bit. Few days of rain but still inside, this winter seems to linger on a bit this year, as last year we had sun and 23c degrees.
On with the hallway, now we have to make the wall framing trying to make a straight wall so the end result will be flat and straight, just one of the fun things you have to contend with from an old building, but we love it.
Clear house main Water, cables and outside fittings to be connected through the walls, then all has to be insulated with fiberglass.
All cables to be pulled through to the main distribution board in the utility room, which seems miles away but with the large conduits we have already inserted it is a breeze .Our thanks to Simon and Les for their help. The chop saw has been great, socks on the scaffolding joints to save our head and cloths caching. Second hand large gas cooker for the kitchen and the wood for the strings of the main stairs have arrived.

Then its on to the main 7 meter high wall. Scaffolding again and after many noggins we can also put in the first fix wiring. No isolation on this wall as it in-between the hallway and the Dining / kitchen room. Also included are conduit's for phone, network and speakers.

Then the plaster board, ok for the lower outside wall but a bit of a struggle for the high wall as the last nearly full sheet had to be carefully brought up to fit, and with the cutouts for the beams and sloope of the celling it was quite a job. The good news is this should be the hardest wall of the house. But Gerry did mention the main stair case which is 3 stories high!
Last the metal framing around the corners. More framing timber arrives and Gerry starts on the planting of seeds.

Things are coming on in the poly tunnel but are a bit slower than the past few years due to the weather. Still nature knows best and we will not argue with that. Flooring for the dining room and hall now purchased so put away safety for the moment.
We have achieved a lot this month although not so many pictures.

Next month Mia is here for a few weeks, plastering all the walls in the hall, then painting and hopefully then the last fixing of sockets and switches so the hall will be complete.
