January 2010

January - Weather still snow and frost but some good sunny days although very cold. The main door has been moved.
Next the door through the gable end and the gable itself has to be repaired, its some thick wall. The last of the supports for the roof to go in. We have to worm them up by the fire first to take the frost out of them.
With the help of the stone mason, Brian Evans and his helper Ludo...

Snow is here again, now where did I put that stone I cut yesterday!
Clear house main

It has arrived the oak roof !!!
Fantastic now all we have to do is to put it together....
Roof construction by LAURENT Carpenters, Moreac.
Within an hour we have the first one going in, and that's including a French coffee break.

Two then three. Soon turns to four by the first day, with the end supports now taking a little longer as the stone has to be cut out to place them in.

Next main job for us to take off the the old roof of the hallway, which must be completed by next week to place the other 'A' frames in, only the weekend to do it, onwards and upwards.
Done it... just in time..

At the same time Brian and Lodo are filling in the holes where the end trusses go into the wall, as fast as he build them the roofers make another hole. Especially the corners.
The next weekend and we have to rebuild the holes where the perlins go in to the wall again this has to be completed before Monday when they are back....
Brian and Lodo can then move onto the chimney rebuilding where the old ridge came out so that the insulated board can be put on. The first bit of board going on to the right.

Brian and Lodo now back on to the gable, what a team moving from place to place and not a mope ever heard.

What a month! no weekends off but it is coming on so well. With the snow nearly gone just a bit hanging around on the north fields. We have also been clearing more land around the house and all the thousands of other jobs around, Digger has new tracks, wood to be cut and chopped for next year, and the day to day work in the poly tunnel and garden.
