February 2012

February -  Weather: Very cold for the first few weeks then just like spring up to 19C+ in the day, great to be outside.
Still working inside for the first few weeks, Gerry is making great progress with the kitchen celling, it has been a month of working every day except for the odd shopping trip for food, also the trip to the local bakers, well gives the day a chance to warm up!
With now the end celling completed we move on to the main part of the Kitchen Dining room. Just means every thing is higher and takes a bit longer, but we have found a way of reducing the time it takes by building more scaffolding to start. Just means we have to place some of the 6 meter building planks up to create a temporary floor and move it along each time.
Gerry has repaired, sanded, treated and stained the first leaded light, hopefully will last another 100 years. Cleaned and with the new side on this one will play its part.
 Clear house main
Well up she comes, each section takes a full week, 3 coats of plaster, rubbing down in between, then 4 to 5 coats of paint.

Outside cutting more stone so may be with the heavy frosts gone next month we can continue with the south wall. Last of the spuds dug out so we also need to start preparing the ground for the next years crop.

Next leaded light out, needs a new section of frame for the bottom rail, cut out and ready. Gerry has already stated striping this side.
Next moving the scaffolding and temporary floor along to the next section. Great to see the first section completed.

Outside for few days so I can clear and rotovate the soil ready for planting next month. Gerry out supervising, as I would rotovate any thing but she saves a few bits.
Another week has pasted and scaffolding down then up and floor moved, next section which is the last at the top!

Outside all areas have been rotovated on the south side I have also cut down the trees between the barn and the large log shed so we can clear the area and build a hanger for the tractor and digger.

Also outside I have cut the hazel from the south side hedge and will make up some hazel fencing, never done this before so should be an interesting experiment.

First one above right not so good had the upright poles to close, but now worked it out and with a spacing of 400mm its right, but may have to adjust depending on the diameter of the branches. What is left will make excellent pea sticks.
Well with the all the
top celling filled and painted we move down to the lower sections. Daniel has now hot water, with the thanks to Simon for the connecting it up. Its only temporary but we will now look for a BATH, it has been nearly 4 years!
Each day now the sun comes up a little earlier and the days are getting longer, with great afternoons.

Next month much more gardening, hopefully finishing all the main Kitchen / Dining celling, just heard the digger is fixed so should be able to start clearing the main south side and even start again on the south wall.
