August -
Weather: Dry, just few thunder storms, with Ros and family over for the
first week we had a few days of family fun. Meals out, trip to the
island of 'WHAT' in French Houat, a great day. The only way is by boat
so we went in a Zodiac, maximum of 8 and what a trip. Misty when we left

But back to work, first this month cut our way into the temporary wall
from the workshop to the main house a meter of hidden space. Make a door
out of the bits and create some storage shelves.
This then unable us to clean up the tool, workshop room and put away all
the paint and bits which we will use later, thanks to Ros for the paint
she managed to bring over, French paint is expensive and not so good.
Next all the scaffolding down in the main stair well, stack and sort out
all the joints. Then move all the windows, doors and wood from the
kitchen to the first and top floor of the main house, also put in a
temporary window on the first floor south side so it will all remain
dry.

Satellite dish put up in its final place on the south wall, also running
through and connecting the 10 cables, so many apples this year, well
that will be a another job in a month or so!
Next we have to tackle the chimney in the main dinning room so we can
connect up the wood burner, this requires a
lining, the stone work to be taken down on the main chimney top and
rebuilt. Then the whole thing to be filled with a mix of vermiculite and
cement at 5 to 1, new pot. But before we can start we have to build and
make some sort of safe access.

So with the shuttering in place below, we have taken apart the old
chimney down about 4 levels and rebuilt it. All cement and mixes have to
pulled up by buckets. 2,250 liters of vermiculite, 11 bags of cement and
all the kit.
That's just over 320 buckets. Gerry mixing for 2 days.

Heard of a house sale so Gerry has gone off on one, a French caved
marriage bed, with dressing table, bed side cabinet and wardrobe, also
thrown in another bed matrices and wardrobe. That's two bed rooms
sorted.

Well back to the pot, great views from here.

Next placing in a temporary loo and sink in the area off the main
kitchen also wiring in the lights for this area and the utility room,
Jake coming to stay next month, but now gives us a the use of a few more
rooms.

Another 'Vin Granier' car boot and more stuff. |
Garden still doing very well, tomatoes and salad every day, still lots
of potatoes, should go through the rest of the year, may be the last
crop of strawberries, beetroot on the right, and still plenty of runner
beans. But just had to cut the grass, just 6 acre's, hope this will slow
down soon. |
Our thanks goes to Daniel aging for his help, just not certain this is
the correct topping out on the roof. Ask James Taylor.

Next month pointing the chimney, tiling and making the fire place below,
inserting the stove, then removing the scaffolding. We then have to dig
and clean up the ground on the south side, start sorting the stone and
building. |
